UPSC Examination

UPSC Examination and Its Syllabus

Before you are appearing for an exam, the first thing you need to know is syllabus and second is a format of the exam. UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) conducts the competitive exam for various civil services recruitment in Government of India. This exam is conducted nationwide with success rate 0.1% to 0.3%.  Every year examination is categorized into two phases as:

  • Prelim Examination
  • Main Examination
The questions asked in Prelims are an objective type or multiple choice questions and the question asked in the main exam are in descriptive and essay type manner. Cracking these two phases is more difficult but after appearing this candidate selected for the personal interview. The syllabus of general studies of UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam is very vast. It consists of topics that range from Indian culture, politics, Indian history, economy, geography, general science, environment. 

The preliminary exam is compulsory and syllabus is mainly designed to evaluate a candidate’s cognition of current affairs and aptitude within a time period. The Mains syllabus is basically evaluated to judge a candidate's academic expertise in a specialized subject. The syllabus is set to find out the ability of the candidate to present knowledge in a clear and compatible manner.
